Creating a website

Professionals websites

Whilst beginning to create my own website I have chosen to look at some other professionals websites to gain influence and inspiration in terms of layout and designs. Sticking to the professionals I have previously been looking at in professional practice and my own practical work, I have looked at their websites to see how they have chosen to lay them out and present their work.

Before looking at any professionals websites I already had an idea in my head about how I would ideally like my website to look. I already knew I would want a white background and a clean simple layout. I want to stick to basic colours such as black and white for the text on my website. I feel a clean and more simple layout results in no distractions from the images on the site will be caused.

Martin Parr: Priofesional photogapher

Something which is quite different and interesting about Martin Parr's website is the fact he uses logo's as navigation to different pages as appose to words such as 'blog, bio, contact' ect. I like the way the layout of the home page and whole site is very minimal and I like the way the image on the home page fits the full screen. On the home page the image fades into several other images displaying some of Parr's most recent work.

Jill Cole: Professional photographer and lecturer at CCAD

The next photography website I chose to look at was one of my University tutors. Again, as can be seen here, Jill's website is very clean and minimal, which I think gives a very professional look to the work. The website is easy to navigate around and I really like how the navigation bar is to the left hand side of the page, rather than across the top like most websites I have looked at.

Richy Leeson: Profesional photographer and fromer CCAD student

A final website I have chosen to look at is that of Richy Leeson, a former student at my university. The reason I wanted to look at this website is because I know Richy is doing very well in the professional industry at the moment. With being a former student and not someone who has been in the professional industry for 10 years or more such as photographers like Martin Parr, it is interesting to see how Richy has chosen to present his website. I feel Richy's website is the most simple design I have looked at. His wok is presented side by side as can be seen below, and the work can be scrolled through from left to right. All of his work is presented in a simple style and can be easily accessed. I feel the website is more simplistic than what id expect from a professionals website, which I think is a really good thing because it does the job and still looks very professional. Looking at this website in particular has made me realise I do not need to worry or focus upon creating a complicated website. Something which simply presents my work in a clear and professional light is exactly what I need to aim for.
